A coalition of event-planning professionals and hospitality businesses in Central Florida has united to fully fund and produce an upscale charity gala, providing a complete, cost-free fundraising platform for a regional nonprofit supporting grieving youth. The initiative, known as the Goodness Gala, relieves its selected beneficiary of all upfront production expenses, ensuring that every dollar contributed by attendees directly funds community programs.

This year’s recipient is New Hope for Kids, a Maitland-based charitable organization dedicated to assisting children who have experienced the devastating loss of parents, siblings, or other immediate family members. The organization offers specialized grief-counseling and structured emotional support services to children facing traumatic bereavement resulting from terminal illness, fatal accidents, suicide, and homicide.

Operating for three decades, New Hope for Kids focuses on transforming personal tragedy into long-term healing for both young people and their surviving guardians. The organization guides families through the process of building coping mechanisms and navigating an altered daily life, pairing professional counseling with peer support environments where children can connect with others undergoing similar emotional hardships.

Despite the charity's 30-year operational history, New Hope leadership emphasized that many local families dealing with sudden loss remain unaware of the support systems available to them. New Hope Chief Executive Officer Brian Clark noted that being selected for the fully funded event provides vital visibility, allowing the organization to introduce its resources to a broader audience while delivering comfort and stability to families during their most challenging moments.

The Goodness Gala was conceived by Sean Hughes, chief executive officer of aVenue Event Group, who sought to address the heavy financial risks and logistical burdens charities shoulder when hosting annual fundraisers. Hughes observed that nonprofit organizations often dedicate up to a full year of planning and substantial portions of their budgets toward securing venues and vendors, which ultimately reduces the net proceeds directed to their core missions.

Rather than offering conventional piecemeal discounts, Hughes and partnering businesses structured an all-inclusive, fully donated gala package valued at $100,000. Under this collaborative model, participating vendors absorb all operational costs, ranging from logistical coordination to on-site services, enabling the beneficiary to capture the entire gross revenue generated by ticket sales and donor gifts.

The upcoming fundraiser will take place at The Balcony, a rooftop venue and patio space overlooking downtown Orlando owned by aVenue Event Group. The turnkey package supplies every essential element of a premier banquet, including full dinner catering, appetizers, an open bar, audio and lighting production, disc jockey entertainment, professional event photography, printed program materials, tables, and custom floral arrangements.

The initiative relies on the contribution of numerous Orlando-area specialty vendors. Alongside aVenue Event Group, the donor roster includes TableTop Catering, Orlando Marquee & Decor, Go To Event Rentals, iRock Your Party, Bellamore Studio, Faux Real Flowers, On Top Printing, and Printed for Light.

Business leaders participating in the endeavor highlighted the importance of integrating corporate philanthropy into standard business operations. James Marino, owner of TableTop Catering, expressed that learning about the prevalence of childhood parental loss locally underscored the necessity of supporting specialized grief centers, motivating his company's commitment to community reinvestment.

To ensure an equitable selection process among worthy non-profit candidates, gala organizers established a formal vetting structure in collaboration with the Central Florida Foundation. The foundation provides strategic philanthropic guidance to assist the donor committee in evaluating applications from regional organizations seeking support.

Competition for the fully donated package has expanded considerably since the gala’s inception. During the inaugural event last year, approximately two dozen organizations submitted applications, resulting in the selection of NextStep Orlando, a specialized recovery center providing rehabilitation resources for individuals living with paralysis. This year, the applicant pool grew to 36 non-profit organizations.

Committee members noted that reviewing the applicant submissions often proved deeply emotional, as numerous organizations demonstrated compelling community needs. However, the unique challenges faced by bereaved children resonated strongly with the vendor coalition during the final selection process.

The emotional impact of New Hope’s mission is reflected in its small-group counseling sessions, where young children share personal accounts of parental loss and the social isolation that often accompanies sudden tragedy. Within these peer circles, children find mutual understanding and validation, creating an informal support network that fosters resilience.

Gloria Capozzi, director of community outreach at New Hope for Kids, highlighted that providing children with a secure space to process grief creates a pivotal transition from isolation to renewed optimism, allowing young participants to witness positive transformation in the aftermath of profound loss.

Because the entire venue and catering footprint has been underwritten, patrons attending Saturday’s event will participate knowing that none of their financial contributions will be diverted toward overhead or production invoices.

Organizers plan to sustain the charitable initiative on an annual basis. The coalition of Orlando event vendors will open the application cycle for the 2027 Goodness Gala on October 1, continuing their effort to provide regional charities with cost-free platforms for financial development.
