Pabst Blue Ribbon Suffers Major Beer Heist at California Distribution Center

A significant theft has struck the beverage industry, with Pabst Blue Ribbon reporting the loss of approximately 40,000 pounds of beer from a California distribution center. The incident, which has garnered attention from both law enforcement and the public, involves a total cargo valued at roughly $70,000, including Anheuser-Busch and Pabst Blue Ribbon products.

The Montclair Police Department is currently investigating the theft, which occurred at the Anheuser-Busch distribution center on Brooks Street. The theft was reported on August 17, and police are examining whether the two incidents of cargo theft are connected. The first shipment, worth about $45,000, was destined for Tucson, Ariz., but never reached its destination. About an hour later, a subcontracting company used fraudulent documentation to arrange the pickup of approximately $25,000 worth of products.

Pabst Blue Ribbon has taken an active role in the investigation, using social media to publicize the theft and offer a reward for information that could lead to the recovery of the cargo. The company's Instagram posts have highlighted the scale of the theft, with one post noting the loss of 40,000 pounds of beer. The company has also issued a deadline for the return of the cargo, giving individuals 18 days and 44 minutes to return the truck without questions.

Despite Pabst's reference to a stolen truck in its social media posts, Montclair police clarified that only the cargo was stolen, not the truck itself. The company has emphasized the importance of keeping beer cold, suggesting that the thief may have been unaware of this critical aspect of beer handling.

The Pabst Blue Ribbon theft follows a high-profile beverage cargo theft involving two Bay Area celebrities less than two years prior. In November 2024, two freight trucks carrying about $1 million worth of Santo Spirits tequila, co-owned by Guy Fieri and Sammy Hagar, were reported stolen in Laredo, Texas. The shipments were destined for California and Pennsylvania, and the stolen cargo included more than 4,000 cases of tequila.

The theft of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and the subsequent investigation highlight the challenges faced by the beverage industry in protecting its products. The use of fraudulent shipping documents in both incidents underscores the need for robust security measures and the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and businesses to combat such crimes.

As the investigation continues, the Montclair Police Department is working to identify suspects and determine the extent of the operation behind the thefts. With no suspects publicly identified as of yet, the public remains vigilant for any leads that could help solve this mystery.

Pabst Blue Ribbon's proactive approach to the theft, including its use of social media to engage with the public and offer a reward, has garnered widespread attention and support. The company's message to the thief, emphasizing the importance of obtaining the beer in an honorable way, reflects the company's commitment to its brand and its customers.

The theft of 40,000 pounds of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer from a California distribution center serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities within the supply chain. As the investigation unfolds, the beverage industry and law enforcement agencies are united in their efforts to recover the stolen cargo and bring those responsible to justice.
