First Alert Weather: Coastal Showers to Move Inland, Thunderstorms Expected

Jacksonville, FL – First Alert Weather is forecasting a series of weather events that will see morning coastal showers shifting inland by the afternoon, bringing the potential for heavy downpours and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service has issued a watch for the region, anticipating a dynamic weather pattern that will persist throughout much of the week.

This morning, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy with temperatures in the 70s. However, a few showers over the Atlantic will make their way onshore, leading to scattered heavy downpours in coastal counties. By the afternoon, the rain is forecasted to move well inland, past Highway 301 and toward I-75, where there could be additional rounds of heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds.

Despite the wet forecast, the I-95 corridor is expected to have a lot of dry hours this afternoon. The weather pattern is expected to remain similar throughout the week, with a few coastal showers in the morning followed by inland storms in the afternoon. This pattern is a result of onshore winds that will maintain an elevated rip current risk at local beaches.

Temperatures each afternoon are predicted to be in the 80s along the beaches and rise to low to middle 90s inland. This heat, combined with the potential for heavy rain, makes for a challenging weather scenario. According to the National Weather Service, Jacksonville has already experienced 96 days at or above 90 degrees this year, placing it 12th on the list of years with the most 90-degree days. The city is on track to rise into the "Top 10" this week.

In the tropics, there are no immediate threats to the local area. However, Invest 97L, an offshore system in Louisiana, is expected to become a tropical depression or tropical storm today. It is forecasted to move inland over eastern Texas or western Louisiana by tomorrow evening. Small and compact systems like this can strengthen or weaken quickly, so residents should remain vigilant.

Hurricane hunters are scheduled to fly into this system this morning to gather data, and the next name on the list will be Edouard. The remnants of Dolly, now a tropical wave, are bringing beneficial rains to Puerto Rico. The moisture from this system is expected to approach Florida later this week, but there are no indications of re-development at this time.

Today's forecast calls for a high of 91 degrees with a few morning coastal showers and a few inland afternoon storms. Tonight, a coastal shower is expected later, otherwise, the sky will be partly cloudy with a low of 74 degrees. The forecast for the upcoming days shows a pattern of a few morning coastal showers and inland afternoon storms, with temperatures ranging from 74 to 93 degrees.

Jacksonville residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and warnings. First Alert Weather provides an interactive radar and a mobile app for real-time tracking of rain and storm activity. Additionally, meteorologists are available on Twitter for updates and discussions about the weather.

As the week progresses, the National Weather Service will continue to monitor the situation closely, providing updates and forecasts to ensure the safety and preparedness of the community. Residents are advised to be mindful of the potential for heavy rain and to take necessary precautions to avoid flooding and other weather-related hazards.
